Frequently asked questions

What is the Living Legacy Forever Flowers Garden?

Living Legacy Forever Flowers Garden is a new sustainable memorial option available for the first time in South Australia, exclusively at Centennial Park.

It is an environmentally conscious way to return loved one’s ashes to the earth. By using a scientific process to turn the ashes into micronutrients for the plants and flowers, loved ones will live on in the beautiful, landscaped garden for friends, family and future generations to enjoy.

Why has Centennial Park introduced Living Legacy Forever Flowers?

Centennial Park recognised the need to adapt and meet the increasing demand for sustainable and less emission intensive memorial options. The introduction of Living Legacy Forever Flowers aligns with the goals identified in our Environmental Sustainability Plan [link] and the generational movement towards alternative and sustainable end-of-life choices.

Who is Living Legacy?

Living Legacy was established in 2014 and developed its first living memorial landscape in Lilydale, Victoria, in 2017. Since then, Living Legacy has gone on to become a global leader in soil science creating living memorial landscapes that enrich life with empowering legacy impacts.

It is the only company in the world to have created new forests at scale from cremated ashes, partnering with leading Government and industry bodies to create a national network of Living Legacy forests and gardens.

How does Living Legacy work?

Living Legacy formulated a scientific process that detoxifies and turns ashes into micronutrients which are then infused into the Forever Flowers Garden. This process then helps it flourish, so your loved one’s life can be perpetuated through the flowers of thousands of seeds and seedings all year round.

Why is it better for the environment?

High pH and salt levels can make the impact of scattering ashes worse for ecosystems. Human cremated ash is high in sodium – 200 to 2000 times higher than plants can tolerate. They are rich in phosphates, calcium, potassium and sodium, all of which are not in the balance required by plants for healthy growth.[1]

The Living Legacy treatment detoxifies and balances the pH of cremated remains so it can sustain and perpetuate life through flowers, plants and trees.

How big is the Forever Flowers Garden and where is it located?

The Living Legacy Forever Flower bed is 8.4 metres by 2.7 metres in size. Located next to the Services Family memorial area and Contemplation Court within Centennial Park. Click here for a map to the garden.

Is there a limit on how many people can be memorialised in the Forever Flower Garden at Centennial Park?

The first garden bed has 100 interments available for memorialisation.

What happens when all 100 positions are filled? Will Centennial Park expand its Living Legacy memorialisation offering?

Once Living Legacy Forever Flowers Garden is occupied, Centennial Park will explore further expanding this perpetual sustainable memorial option within the Park.

What flowers are being used in the Forever Flowers Garden?

The Forever Flowers Garden incorporates a mix of perennial flowers that will be regenerated seasonally.

Will Centennial Park ever incorporate trees as part of its Living Legacy memorialisation offering?

At this stage trees have not been considered within the Park due to the scale of land required to accommodate this form of planting and growth.

Can you have old ashes treated through the Living Legacy transformation?

Yes. The Living Legacy treatment has proven to work with ashes dating back as far as the 1930’s.

How much does Living Legacy cost?

The cost for Living Legacy Forever Flowers is $8,895, this includes the perpetual Interment Right, ash placement ceremony, memorial plaque and memorial crystal keepsake.
