This July marks 90 years since Centennial Park was established, a milestone that reflects decades of care, collaboration and service to our community.
For nearly a century, Centennial Park has been a place of memory and meaning. A garden, a meeting place and a beautifully landscaped natural environment that invites reflection and connection.
As part of our 90-year anniversary, we are inviting families to help us honour those interred at Centennial Park by sharing their stories.
Throughout July, we will be featuring selected, submitted stories on our Instagram page @centennialparkcemetery as part of our Loved Ones of Centennial Park series. Each post will honour the life of an individual and the memories if those who remember them.
Some submitted stories may also be included in a weekly summary shared on our Facebook page @centennialparkcemetery
How can I contribute?
Do you have a loved one resting at Centennial Park? We would be honoured to share their story as part of our anniversary celebrations.
You are invited to send:
- Their first name
- One photograph of them (jpeg preferred)
- A short story or memory of up to 100 words
Email your photo and story by 2pm 31 July to [email protected] with the subject line: 90th Anniversary Submission.
Together, these stories will form a heartfelt mosaic of the extraordinary individuals who make Centennial Park an importance place of remembrance, belonging and connection.
Follow us on Instagram to see the commemorations unfold.
Important Information
Where will the stories be shared?
Selected stories will be shared on Centennial Park’s Instagram page, @centennialparkcemetery, throughout July as part of our anniversary commemorations. Some submissions may also be included in a weekly summary shared on our Facebook page, @centennialparkcemetery.
Who can submit a story?
Anyone with a loved one interred at Centennial Park is welcome to submit a story. You do not need to be on social media to contribute.
How will stories be presented on Instagram?
Each Instagram post will focus on one individual and include their first name, photo and a shortened version of the submitted story if required. Posts will be presented respectfully and consistently, in keeping with the setting and purpose of Centennial Park.
Can I review the post before it is shared on Instagram?
Due to the volume of submissions and scheduling requirements, individual post approvals may not be possible. However, our team will take great care to ensure all stories are shared respectfully and in line with the information provided.
Can I submit a story if I don’t have a photo?
A photograph is required, as Instagram is a visual platform. The image does not need to be a photograph of your loved one. It may be another meaningful image, provided it is appropriate and suitable for sharing on Centennial Park’s social media channels.
Will comments be allowed on Instagram posts?
Yes, comments will be enabled. Centennial Park moderates its social media channels and will remove any comments that are inappropriate or disrespectful.
Do I need an Instagram account to see the stories?
No. Instagram content can be viewed without an account via a web browser. Weekly summaries on Facebook will also provide another way to view shared stories.
Will these stories be used for anything else?
Stories will be used as part of Centennial Park’s 90-year anniversary commemorations on Instagram and Facebook. They will not be used for other purposes.
Why are only first names being used and no dates included?
Using first names only, without dates of birth or death, helps protect privacy while still respectfully honouring each individual and the story shared by those who remember them.
Disclaimer:
Stories received by 2pm 31 July may be shared provided the content and image are appropriate. Centennial Park reserves the right not to share a story or photograph if it is deemed inappropriate. Submissions received after 31 July may not be included, as the series will conclude at the end of the anniversary month.
