Beverley Anthony Foster Mawson was born on September 3, 1927, in Bradford, Yorkshire, his father, Harold, was 40 and his mother, Laura Esme, was 25. He married Maxine Moira Lakin on May 30, 1953 in Kure, Japan. The couple sailed to England via Hong Kong & India where they spent 6 months with Beverley’s two sisters Betty & Patricia before setting Sail for Australia to make their home in Adelaide, South Australia. They had three children during their marriage, Michael, Christopher and Patricia.
Beverley was tragically killed on March 19, 1971, near Elliott, Northern Territory, whilst returning home by car from a business trip to Darwin. He was aged only 43 years. A loving father and devoted husband, sadly like his father his grandchildren never had the opportunity to meet their Grandfather. Beverley was also a decorated British Artillery Officer – HM QEII on the 20th January 1953 Awarded the George Medal to Lt. B.A.F Mawson in recognition of gallant and distinguished Service in Korea.
